How to Connect Applied Epic APIs to ReFocus (Applied DevCenter Setup)

➡️ Use this guide if your agency/brokerage has licensed Applied’s API Suite and needs to provision DevCenter API credentials for ReFocus.

🧭 Overview

✅ ReFocus best practice: test in your Epic sandbox first

➡️ We always prefer validating the integration in your Epic sandbox with realistic data.

✅ Do this in parallel

➡️ While credentials are being created, request a sandbox backfill/refresh.

Copy/paste request:

“Please backfill/refresh our Applied Epic sandbox so ReFocus can test the API integration with realistic data. Please confirm the sandbox database name and estimated completion time.”

⚠️ Note: your Sandbox Admin may be different from your API Suite / DevCenter Admin—loop both in early.

🔐 Step 1 — Create a DevCenter Mock App (get credentials)

Applied DevCenter’s “getting started” flow includes creating an app to obtain an API key and subscribing/associating APIs. (Dev Center)

➡️ In Applied DevCenter:

  1. Login → Create new account (if needed)

  2. Go to Mock AppsAdd Mock App

  3. Set:

    • Name: ReFocus Integration – <Agency Name>

    • Description: “ReFocus API integration for Applied Epic”

  4. Associate API Products using the list below

  5. Submit

  6. Open your approved app and copy:

    • Consumer Key (API Key)

    • Consumer Secret

🔒 Keep the Consumer Secret private. Do not email it.

✅ Step 2 — Associate these API Products (Bundle C + CRM Module)

➡️ Select the following API Products in the DevCenter catalog:

Epic CRM

  • ✅ CRM Module

  • Accounts

  • Contacts

  • Clients

  • Services

  • Opportunities

  • Employees

  • Servicing Roles

Epic Core

  • Organizations

Epic Policy Module

  • Policy Module

Epic Activity Module

  • Workflow Management Module

Epic Attachment

  • Attachments

  • Attachment Folders

  • Attachment Access Levels

✅ Step 3 — Confirm with your Applied Epic CS rep whether Mock creds work for sandbox

➡️ Before testing, ask your Applied Epic CS rep to confirm:

Copy/paste message:

“We created DevCenter Mock credentials for our ReFocus integration. Can you confirm whether Mock credentials authenticate against our Epic sandbox environment? If not, we’ll promote the app to Production and use Prod credentials.”

Decision point

If Mock credentials work for your sandbox:
➡️ Proceed with sandbox testing using the Mock credentials.

⚠️ If Mock credentials do not work for your sandbox:
➡️ Promote the app to Production and use Prod credentials instead.

🔗 Step 4 — Enter credentials directly in ReFocus (during AMS onboarding)

➡️ In ReFocus → Onboarding → Connect your AMS → Applied Epic (API Suite / DevCenter):

  1. Paste Consumer Key

  2. Paste Consumer Secret

  3. Save and continue

✅ Credentials should be entered directly into the ReFocus app during onboarding.

🚀 Step 5 — If needed: Promote to Production + provide Prod credentials

➡️ In Applied DevCenter:

  1. Mock Apps → select your app → Promote to Prod

  2. Submit the request for Applied review

  3. Once approved, copy the Prod Consumer Key/Secret

  4. Enter the Prod credentials in ReFocus (same onboarding step)

⚠️ If you can’t promote, you may need App Promoter permission.

🆘 Need help?

➡️ If you hit an error, send your ReFocus CSM:

  • which environment you’re testing (Sandbox vs Prod)

  • date/time of the attempt

  • any TraceId / error details available
